This course is for anyone applying for a Florida Cosmetologist license, Nail Specialist, Facial Specialist, or Full Specialist license type. Completion of a Board-Approved 10-Hour Continuing Education course is required to receive your renewal license.   Those applying for a Cosmetology license with these license types must complete a 10-hour course to be licensed. Florida Cosmetology license expires every 2 years and must be renewed by October 31st every other year to remain active. 

The renewal requirements may vary depending on how long the license has been held and if any disciplinary action has been taken:

Florida Board of Cosmetology decreased the continuing education renewal requirement for cosmetologists and specialists from 16 hours to 10 hours. 

  • Licensed for less than 10 years
    These licensees must complete all required continuing education (CE) hours by the renewal date.
  • Licensed for 10 or more years without disciplinary action
    These licensees may no longer need to take CE to maintain their license, but it's still important to keep up with new trends in cosmetology.
  • Licensed for 10 or more years with disciplinary action
    These licensees must still complete all required CE hours by the renewal date.

  • 2 Hours of Florida and Federal Laws and Rules
  • 1 Hour of Chemical Makeup related to the Hair, Skin, and Nails
  • .5 Hours of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations
  • .5 Hours of issues of Workers’ Compensation related to Florida law
  • 1 Hour of Environmental Issues
  • 1 Communicable Diseases

After you complete your course.  You will be eligible to register with the State of Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation Board of Cosmetology Application for 10 HOUR RENEWAL Certification.  

1. You will need to submit a $45.00 application fee to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulations HIV/AIDS Application.
